| U18s v Riverside 24th November 2007 On a raw November day the U18s took on Riverside at home. From the outset it was clear that we still lacked match practice, with Riverside much the sharper, although both teams tried to play some good passing football through midfield. From such a move Georgia and Jaz linked well to release Gemma whose fine shot hit the bar. Just after midway through the half Riverside broke down the right and a good shot gave the away team the lead. Shortly afterwards a Riverside corner led to Hayley heading off the line as Riverside grew in confidence and another good move led to Kate making a fine save, plunging to her left to turn the ball away. We started to show some good touches as the half wore on, with Georgia showing some skilful touches in midfield and Becci doing so much running that eventually she couldn't speak. Bliss! 1-0 to Riverside at half time. The second half saw us starting to play some better football and we were a bit unfortunate when Riverside built from a throw in to score a second. It must have been the confusion caused by the three number 6's on the Riverside team It was soon 3-0 when a long clearance was missed by our full back and their forward slotted the ball past Kate. Within the last few minutes Gemma hit the post again and Heather went close with a long range shot (or was it a clearance??). Overall, however, a deserved win for Riverside. Final score: Denmead 0 Riverside 3. |
