Denmead Team: Naomi, Hannah, Emma, Sophie, Sam,
Diane, Chloe and Mae The Denmead Belles came up against a Southampton side that were certainly on top of their game and endured a long morning. The game was goalless for the first 8 minutes with Denmead finding it very difficult to get out of their half. Naomi was playing as the lone forward but was being crowded out. Southampton were passing the ball with ease and once they scored their first goal continued scoring at regular intervals. Diana in the Denmead goal was getting plenty of practise and made a number of good saves. The defenders were all doing their best but were finding difficult to make their tackles count. Southampton All Stars 8 Denmead Belles 0 Sophie replaced Diana goal for the second half and was soon in the thick of the action. Naomi finally managed to elude the attention of the Southampton defenders and had a shot that was saved by the Saints goalie resulting in a corner. Southampton were scoring at regular intrervals s and with the score at 12 0 the reporter had to leave. Players: Naomi, Charley, Emma, Sophie, Sam,
Diane, Chloe, Mae and Eleanor The Denmead Belles took the field with the luxury of having 2 substitutes. The match started with both sides willing to attack resulting in play going from end to end. An early block from Emma resulted in a Hedge End corner. At the other end a driven cross from Chloe just eluded Naomis outstretched foot. The Denmead goal was coming under increased pressure with Charley, Sophie and Sam all making important blocks and tackles. The pressure increased with Hedge End hitting the post until finally Hedge End struck with 2 quick goals mid way through the half. Denmead were making full use of their subs but were restricted when Sophie went off injured. The pressure continued on the Denmead goal with Chloe making a last ditch tackle and Emma making a crucial block. The Belles were still pressing forward, an interchange of passes between Charley and Naomi saw a shot from Charley just clear the bar. Denmead Belles 0 Hedge End 2 Diana replaced Emma in goal for the second half and was soon in the thick of the action. The play started in the same manner as the first with lots of action at both ends. A goal mouth scramble saw Diana make a crucial clearance whilst at the other end Chloe had a shot saved. Naomi had a shot that missed after a long clearance from Chloe. Almost immediately Hedge End broke away and scored a third goal. The Belles were again under the cosh with Charley making a headed clearance from under her own bar. Diana made a good save and Chloe made a good block. Naomi made a break on the right and had a shot that missed. Naomi and Charley were again playing each other in and a pass from Naomi saw Charley clean through but the Hedge End goalie just cleared in time. Hedge End scored their final goal roughly 5 minutes from the end. Denmead were not giving up and another shot from Charley was saved by the Hedge End goalie who was having a good game. Belles @ DJS, KO 11am Result: Lost 3-0 |
Denmead Team- Emma G.K., Naomi , Charley, Sam,
Diane, Sophie, Chloe and Mae The late Kick off of 11.00 certainly suited the Belles who produced their best display of the season. With only 5 minutes remaining Denmead were only trailing 0-1 and were evenly matched against their opponents who had previously beaten them 9-0. In fact the Belles had come close to equalising on numerous occasions throughout the second half. All the girls should take heart from this performance and hopefully all the remaining games can be put back to an 11.00 kick off! The match kicked off with Mae being the substitute, she was soon called into action when Sophie took a nasty tumble as she went to collect the ball and could no longer continue. The girls were matching their opponents in all departments and all of them seemed to be switched on from the start. Dogged defending from Charley blocked a couple of goal bound shots whilst at the other end Chloe had a shot resulting in a corner. The match was end to end with Southampton always a danger with their long throws into the box. This was the Belles undoing when 5 minutes from the end of the first half a long throw eluded the Denmead defenders and was touched just inside Emmas post. Half time: Denmead Belles 0 Southampton Saints Belles 1 The second half started with Denmead kicking down the slope. The belief in the girls grew visibly as the half progressed as they were now looking for an equaliser. Naomi and Chloe had shots that resulted in corners. Chloe in particular was showing great energy seeming to be all over the pitch. Southampton did have the ball in the net but it was direct from a throw in and this produced a moment of controversy. Naomi responded with a long shot and just missed the left hand post when a ball was squared to her in front of goal. The girls were still playing at a high tempo even though they were limited with no substitute. Finally with 5 minutes left Southampton scored their second goal with a piece of skill that the Denmead defenders could do nothing about, a sharp turn and shot just inside the post. The final goal came seconds from the final whistle when Emma could only parry a goal bound shot and the Saints scored from the rebound. Hopefully this match will give the girls the confidence to believe in themselves and finally get the result that their efforts deserve. | 03/10/2009 Winchester Flyers @ Garrison Gnd, Winchester, KO 11am Result: Lost 7-0 |
Denmead Team- Naomi G.K., Emma, Charley, Sam,
Diane, Sophie, Chloe and Hannah. The Denmead Belles took the field with Naomi in goal, as she was restricted to using her left foot due to injury. Conditions were cold and over cast, a marked change from previous weeks. The early exchanges were evenly matched with the Belles not afraid to take the game to their opponents. However the Belles soon found themselves 2-0 down as the early start suggested that they had not woken up to the job of defending. The Belles continued to play and the match was balanced with Chloe managing to bring a save from the Winchester goalkeeper. Winchester were dangerous on the attack and from a right wing cross hit the post. From the next attack Winchester increased their lead with a long ball over the top with the Denmead defence pushing forward. The Belles showed great character coming back and again taking the game to Winchester without really creating clear chances. Charley showed great strength with a run down the right wing that resulted in a corner. Half time: Winchester City 3 - Denmead Belles 0 The second half started with Winchester extending their lead with a quick shot after a good turn. Winchester were able to rotate their players with 3 substitutes which eventually resulted in holes appearing in the Belles defence as they tired. Naomi was increasingly called into action making 2 good saves on the trot. The Belles however continued to press forward whenever they could with all the players doing their best. Emma in defence was making crucial blocks and tackles. Sam was finding room on the right wing and was making strong runs and crosses that the Belles forwards were unable to convert. From a break on the right Winchester were able to slot in their fifth goal after a rebound from the post. Again the Belles responded and from a breakaway Charley had a long shot that just cleared the bar. With time almost up and the Belles visibly tiring Winchester were able to score 2 late goals. Another brave performance from the Belles, who contested throughout, even though they were tiring as the second half progressed. | 26/09/2009 Southampton Belles @ Garrison Gnd, Winchester, KO 10am Result: Lost 9-0 |
STRUGGLE IN THE SUN Denmead Team- Emma (GK) , Naomi, Charley, Sam, Chloe, Diane and Mae (NO SUBS) The second game of the season saw the Belles playing away to a strong Southampton side at the Garrison Ground. The weather was again hot and sunny and the girls were in for a long morning as they only had the bare seven players. The match was evenly balanced for the first 10 minutes with Denmead more than holding their own. Southampton opened the scoring and proceeded to score at regular intervals throughout the first half, from which Denmead could find no real reply. It looked like they were struggling with the heat with one or two players appearing to be suffering from injuries. The Belles however never gave up and were performing heroics in defence, particularly Emma who made a number of crucial saves. Charley in particular seemed to be everywhere making a number of crucial headed clearances in defence. Half Time 6-0 The start of the second half more or less repeated that of the first with both sides evenly matched but with Southampton providing more danger in front of goal. Denmead however were also applying pressure but even though they won a number of corners could not find that elusive first goal of the season. Southampton scored another three times in the second half but this against an improved performance from Denmead. Emma again was playing a blinder in goal with Charley again making an impact with her defending. The tempo of the game slowed considerably as both sides tired in the heat. Even though the Belles struggled in this game they can look back on a much improved second half performance. | 19/09/2009 Andover New Street @ DJS, KO 10am Result: Lost 5-0 |
Denmead Team- Emma (GK) , Naomi, Charley, Sam,
Chloe, Hannah, Diane and Jody. The first match of the 2009/2010 season saw the Belles hosting Andover New Street. Three players Sam, Jody and Diane were making their debuts with Chloe making a welcome return and Sophie supporting her team mates, unable to play due to a hand injury. The starting line up was Emma in goal, Sam and Hannah in defence. Midfield consisted of Chloe on the left, Charley in the Middle and Naomi on the right with Diane the lone striker and Jodie as the only sub. The match kicked off with Denmead defending the slope. They were soon under pressure, as Andover were launching long throws and driven crosses and corners at the Denmead goal. Emma was standing up well to this bombardment along with Sam and Hannah. This early pressure was absorbed with the Belles launching a number of counter attacks passing well through the middle but unable to find a decent strike on goal. The pressure from Andover finally told when a driven corner from the right hit an Andover player on the back and deflected into the net. Soon afterwards Naomi suffered a thigh injury and was replaced by Jodie. Further pressure resulted in Andover hitting a post, Emma was making a number of brave saves but was desperately unfortunate when from a long throw in she could only help the ball into the net as it slipped through her hands making the score 0-2. Denmead were reduced to long shots from both Chloe ands Naomi (now back on) but could not beat the keeper. Jodie had settled into her role as a defender next to Sam and was showing great anticipation as well as being determined in the tackle even though she was one of the smallest players on the pitch. From a long throw in the ball was headed into the Belles net making the score 0-3. Andover were awarded a penalty when Jodie was adjudged to have handled the ball. The resulting penalty was blasted high over the bar bringing the first half to a close. Half Time 0-3 The second half saw Naomi replace Emma in goal and the second half more or less repeated that of the first with Andover using their larger size and build to again launch throws and crosses into the penalty area. The Belles were again defending resolutely but were wilting in the heat as they only had one substitute to their opponents three. Sam and Jodie were proving to be rocks in defence making numerous blocks and interceptions. Unluckily a forth goal was conceded when Sam turned a fierce corner into her own net. Naomi then produced a fine save to keep Andover out but could not keep out a fierce shot from inside the penalty area that happened a few minutes later. The tempo of the game slowed considerably as both sides tired in the heat.
