January 2008 Portsmouth v Denmead Belles Score Draw 1 - 1 |
For the second time this
season, The Belles earned a well deserved draw against Portsmouth. After an
exciting 3-3 draw at Denmead last October, both defences had improved and goals
were a little harder to come by. However, this did not make the game any less exciting and both sides worked hard to prevent too many scoring opportunities. Nikki and Harriet had a fantastic game, both taking the opportunity to push forward with some great runs while also defending well (with Nikki at one point clearing off the line). Naomi was called into action a few times in the first half, making good saves and using her big kick to start off attacks. In Midfield, Charley and Shannon also did some great defending and pushed forward to help Georgie in attack whenever possible. There was a touch of panic mid-way through the half, (Mainly from the Belles Coach), when Naomi picked up a back pass, giving Portsmouth a free kick from about 6 metres out. The girls bravely stood in front of goal and fortunately the shot went wide. It looked like being a goalless first half until Portsmouth managed to scramble the ball home just before half time. Half Time Score 1-0 After playing a great first half, Anna had to leave for an appointment and The Belles played the second half without any subs. This just meant that they had to work even harder and they certainly did. Even with all the girls racing back to help in defence they still managed to create some chances up front but with time ticking away it looked like it wasn't going to be Denmead's day. With less than 5 minutes to go, Nikki went on a super run down the left and hit a long range shot towards goal which the keeper saved but could not hold on to. As the ball came out, Georgie and the Keeper went for the loose ball and despite getting accidentally studded in the challenge, Georgie just managed to get a toe to it as she fell. The ball then trickled agonisingly slowly towards goal and just about made it over the line. With only a few minutes to go, The Belles defended well and managed to get the ball forward for some breathing space. However, with the last kick of the game, Portsmouth found a way through, only to see the ball go inches wide of Naomi's post just as the final whistle blew. Final score: Portsmouth 1 Denmead 1 Scorers: Georgie 1 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher Player of the match: Nikki: with another great performance, Nikki seems to be improving with every game and is now getting forward more with some great runs. |
| 19th January 2008 Denmead Belles v Hedge End (Cup Match) Score Won 2-0 |
The under 12's started
this cup match in great style, creating chances all through the first half.
Charley was the one to make the breakthrough, with a left foot shot that the
keeper could not stop. There were lots more chances, with Nikki, Shannon and
Anna all going close before Georgie scored the second after 20 minutes.
Half time 2-0 After Nikki, Harriet and Naomi had comfortably held the Hedge End attack at bay in the first half, The Belles were able to make some positional changes and substitutions. Harriet was given the job of man marking (sorry person marking) the opposition's best attacker, leaving Nikki to do a great job of covering at the back. Anna and Shannon did their usual roles of creating attacking moves, whilst also doing a great job of helping out in defence. With 10 minutes to go, Harriet went in goal, giving Naomi a well-earned chance to play in Midfield, showing that she is equally good outfield as she is in goal. With Nikki coming off to allow for this change, Hedge End started to look dangerous going forward. However, Charley dropped back to cover and did a great job of defending, to help keep a clean sheet for The Belles. Final score: Denmead 2 Hedge End 0 Scorers: Charley 1, Georgie 1 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher |

December 2007 Denmead Belles v St. Francis Lost 1 - 5 |
Although the girls must have had
their minds on Christmas, they put up a brave display against the high flying
St.Francis team. The score line did not do The Belles justice, as there were chances at both ends, which St. Francis put away and Denmead didn't. This was still a good all round performance and the girls learnt the hard way that they must close the opposition down a lot quicker to prevent scoring opportunities. On a brighter note, Charley scored a good goal, running on to a throw in and shooting past the St.Francis keeper. Final score: Denmead 1, St.Francis 5 Scorer: Charley The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher, Amy Harrison, Nikki Bollman Player of the match: Anna: With some good surging runs and great defensive work |

December 2007 Proveya v Denmead Belles Score Lost 10 - 2 |
On a bitterly cold morning the under
12's found themselves up against a very good Proveya team that were quickly
into their stride. With some early goals conceded, the Belles could easily have
given up but instead kept going and managed to get a consolation goal towards
the end of the first half. Half time score 8-1 The second half was far more evenly balanced and The Belles began to string some good moves together. Although the opposition went close several times, they only managed 2 goals in the second half, with The Belles hitting back with a goal of their own as well as some very near misses. Final score: Proveya 10 Denmead 2 Scorers: Georgie 1, Anna 1 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher, Amy Harrison Player of the match: Georgie: A good battling performance, forcing the Proveya Keeper into several good saves and scoring with a well taken goal. |

November 2007 Denmead Belles v Southampton Result Lost 1 - 0 |
A fantastic game saw The Belles
Battle Southampton right to the bitter end. Matching The Saints in every
department, the Under 12's all put in a brilliant display. There were chances at both ends but with some great tackles and fine goalkeeping, the first half somehow finished 0-0. The second half continued in the same vein until finally Southampton broke the deadlock with an unstoppable shot from long range. The Belles were not going to lie down and went close to scoring several times as they looked for the equaliser. However, time ran out, and despite giving the Saints Management some real scares the final whistle blew. Final score: Denmead 0 Southampton 1 There were too many good performances (from all the team members) to mention today, but if the girls keep up this standard, they will be a match for any team in the league. The line up today was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Amy Harrison. Player of the match: Nikki: getting the award for the second week running, Nikki put in a great performance at Left Back. |

November 2007 Winchester Flyers v Denmead Belles Score Lost 6 - 1 |
The under 12's suffered their first
defeat of the season as they came up against a strong Winchester team.
After conceding an early goal to The Flyers, it looked like The Belles had managed to keep the half time score down to a single goal. Unfortunately, 2 minutes into stoppage time, Winchester scrambled home a second just moments before the whistle blew. With Denmead pushing forward throughout the second half, Winchester were able to capitalise on an exposed defence and despite some good goalkeeping by Naomi, found the net several more times. All the girls battled hard and both Nikki and Harriet made vital tackles throughout the match. Anna, Charley and Amy played well in midfield, although Anna came off injured after a tackle left her on the ground with a painful shoulder. The Belles managed a consolation Goal when a nice pass from Georgie put Shannon through to hit a lovely shot past the Flyers Keeper. Final score: Winchester 6 Denmead 1 Scorers: Shannon 1 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher, Amy Harrison Player of the match: Nikki - A well-deserved award, after some great defensive work that helped to keep the score line down. |

November 2007 Andover v Denmead Belles Score Won 1 - 5 |
The Belles secured another good win
on Saturday, with their best performance so far this season. With some
excellent passing moves the girls looked dangerous with every attack and went
close several times in the first 5 minutes. The Andover Keeper was in good form but could not prevent the first goal as Anna made a great run and cross, for Georgie to knock in from close range. The Belles second came shortly afterwards with Shannon scoring to keep up her excellent start to the season. The Andover defence had no answer to Anna and she had several good shots saved in the space of a few minutes. Then, with another great run down the right, she crossed perfectly for Georgie to knock the ball in first time. Shannon and Georgie were substituted midway through the half, with Charley and Amy slotting straight in to the action. It wasn't long before Charley scored from close range, latching on to a shot from Anna. The Andover team's attacks were dealt with well by Nikki and Harriet, both of whom made several long runs forward throughout the game, linking up well with the midfield and strikers. In goal, Naomi made some vital saves including a fierce shot from an Andover free kick which she did well to hold on to. Half Time Score 0-4 The second half was a much tighter affair with Andover managing to pull a goal back. However, despite The Belles making a few positional changes, they were still the more attacking team and Georgie restored the 4 goal advantage after a good pass from Charley put her through. Nikki, Harriet and Naomi kept the opposition at bay whenever they looked dangerous and after a few more near efforts by the Belles the final whistle blew. Final score: Andover 1 Denmead 5 Scorers: Shannon 1, Georgie 3, Charley 1 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher, Amy Harrison Player of the match: Anna: Her best game so far this season, with loads of strong runs and shots as well as providing assists for several of the Goals. |

October 2007 Denmead Belles v Portsmouth ladies Score Draw 3 - 3 |
Another excellent display, in a really close fought match, as the Under 12's twice came from behind to earn a well deserved draw. It was The Belles that struck first, with Georgie tapping in from close range after some good work from Shannon. The Pompey keeper was called on to make several more saves in the first half with Charley and Shannon both going close. The Belles defence of Nikki, Charley and Harriet played well throughout the game, keeping the oppositions chances to a minimum and also lending good support to the Belles attacks. In goal, Naomi was having her best game of the season so far, pulling off a series of excellent diving saves. However, it was Portsmouth who scored with an equaliser midway through the half, which gave Naomi no chance. With Anna missing from today's line up, The Belles had just the 1 Substitute, and when Amy came on for Georgie, she had her best game so far for the Under 12's. Half time score 1-1 With just a couple of minutes played in the second half, Portsmouth struck again to take a short lived lead. With Denmead battling hard, Amy won the ball in Midfield and released Georgie to put the teams level again. As you would expect from a Portsmouth team, they were not about to ease off and they took the lead back shortly afterwards. The Belles are a tough bunch this year though, never giving up and giving every ounce of effort, with all of them running their socks off. This paid off when the equaliser came 6 minutes from the end after some great work from all of the team. After this the girls defended well, with Naomi, Harriet and Nikki making sure that Portsmouth did not take the lead again so near to the end of the match. Final score: Denmead 3 Portsmouth 3 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Charley Pitcher, Amy Harrison Player of the match: Georgie: A hatrick for Georgie today, thanks to some excellent work from all of her team-mates, in what was a great team effort. |

October 2007 Colden Common v Denmead Belles Score Won 1 - 14 |
Another good win for the Belles on
Saturday, against an inexperienced Colden Common team. The first half gave the girls plenty of chances to practice their passing and shooting with goals coming in quick succession from Shannon (3), Georgie (3), Anna (2) and Charley (1). In defence, Nikki, Harriet and Naomi kept the opposition at bay although they did manage to score near to the end of the half. The Belles started the second half in much the same way as the first, continuing to attack at every opportunity. The girls were then tried in various different outfield positions (except for Harriet who stayed at the back and also kindly volunteered to go in goal). This gave Naomi the chance to play in Midfield and showing her shooting power scored almost immediately. Further goals followed, with Amy scoring a well deserved first for the Under 12's and Nikki, moving up into Midfield, also getting her first of the season. The Colden Common team showed much improvement in the second half with their keeper making some good saves. However, The Belles managed a couple more before the final whistle blew to end the game 14-1. Final score: Colden Common 1 Denmead 14 Scorers: Shannon 4, Georgie 4, Anna 2, Charley 1, Nikki 1, Naomi 1, Amy 1, The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charley Pitcher, Amy Harrison Player of the match: Naomi - After a quiet first half, Naomi showed her outfield skills and was rewarded with a goal. |

Denmead Belles v Worthys Girls Score Won 4 - 1 |
A great start to the season for the Under 12's as they
beat Worthys 4 goals to 1 with a fine display. The team all played well; with Naomi looking confident in goal and making some good long kicks for the forwards to chase. Nikki, as always, played well at left back and Harriet had a great game in her new position at Right Back. The Belles had the better of the first half and deservedly came off 1-0 up, with a goal from Georgie. The second half saw The Belles increase their lead with 2 more goals from Georgie, (thanks to good build up work from the rest of the team). The final goal came from a superb long shot from Shannon, who has started the season well and looks like scoring a lot of goals this year. The Midfield was being bossed by Anna and there was good support from Charlie and Amy when they came on as subs. The Belles were well on top for most of the half, although Worthys did manage to score a consolation goal towards the end. Final score: Denmead 4 Worthys 1 The line up for today's match was: Naomi Groome, Nikki Bollman, Shannon Chase, Georgie Parks, Harriet Spalding, Anna Reynolds, Charlie Pitcher, Amy Harrison Player of the match: Harriet, who is showing great promise at Right Back and frustrated the Worthys forwards throughout the game. |
