Andover New Street Vs Denmead Belles
Conditions: Cold, Sunny
Result: Lost 2 - 3
Managers Voice: Like the Chairman's drive (gravelly)

This was an exciting game with both sides having chances. Finishing and some errors in defence causing our defeat.

The team today consisted of Katie B and Nikita sharing keeper duties, Katie G (Captain) and Emma in defence, Imogen and Sharna up-front joined by Nikita or Katie B respectively for each half. No sub today, as Skye was looking after her pony (I hope he/she gets well soon - a bale of hay always sorts me out first thing in the morning) and hopefully Hannah will join us shortly.

We went a goal down about mid-way through the first half, the ball slipping through Katie Bs hands and trickling into goal. Her enthusiasm in the second half, to run into spaces, throw-ins and having the faintest of goal chances, she had a good game. Katie G and Emma were slightly less confident than normal and although trying to run into attacking position were always aware of their defensive duties prefering to drop back and mark a couple of their attackers who, if we had an off-side rule wouldn't be able to 'goal-hang'. Well done for sticking to tasks.

Nikita had a good game, running into good positions during the first half, tackling and defending. Made some excellent saves when in goal, though her goal kicks let her down slightly, I hope she and Katie B will still want to go into goal again. I really appreciate the girls who volunteer to take a turn between the 'posts' , it's an important role and a permanent goalie would be of benefit.

Finally, Imogen and Sharna, both played well up-front today and are starting to develop a partnership. Imogen scoring 1-on-1 and Sharna benefiting from a shot rebounding, scored (Parents quote "Flying through the air as she did so") - her first goal - well done. Imogen and Sharna both had other chances thwarted by their goalie who had an excellent game.

We deserved a result but then it went a bit 'Pete Tong', we conceded two goals and we had a chance that streaked across their goal-line as we pressed for an equaliser, but it wasn't to be.

Imogen was voted 'Player of the Week' by the opposition. I spoke to their Manager after the game who said a draw would have been fairer and I have to agree - keep up the good work.

There's a bit to write today, so I hope I don't get writers block, or should it be typers elbow! This series of games was an excellent opportunity for us to get match fit prior to next weeks league game and give everyone a chance to play in different positions. We played 20 minutes each game (10 minutes each way), no subs during the game, but each player was guaranteed at least 40 minutes playing time. Potential new girl Hannah joined us for the game which meant that for the first time I had 8 players!!!

I rotated the squad as much as I could which meant 2 players had to sit on the touch-line for 10 minutes at a time. There were numerous highlights, so I'll try to summarise - I apologise if I miss anything: Skye was our captain today, coming very close to scoring on a couple of occassions, taking a turn in goal. Katie B - played in goal twice. keeping a clean sheet, also playing well upfield. Katie G - defending and surging runs into into attack, unlucky not to score, a good all-round game. Hannah - excellent debut, offering to go in goal for one period, tackling and running. Sharna - effort was fantastic making tackles and clearances in attack, midfield and defence. Imogen - good in goal and when playing outfield was unlucky not to score more having chances throughout. Nikita - strong in midfield and attack, making good runs with and without the ball. Also taking a turn in goal. Emma - partnered Katie G in defence, covering well as needed. Emma also helping in attack, for corners and scoring an excellent goal in open play.

Emma was voted 'Player of the Week' by the opposition, but to be honest I could have given everyone a trophy for todays for efforts.

Well done to all the Girls (Widbrook incl), thanks to Rob (Referee) and the Parents for their support.

Denmead Belles Vs Winchester Girls
Conditions: Mild, Damp

Result: Lost 4:1
Managers Voice: Rusty

Our first game of the year and it showed we'd enjoyed our Christmas. However the result doesn't really show the effort the girls put into this game as they tried to recover from an early two goal lead.
Imogen scoring just before the break to make it 2:1. Skye was in goal for us the first half, Katie G and Emma in defence, Sharna in midfield (our captain for today), Imogen and Katie B in attack.

For the second half, Sharna took duties betweem the posts and we were joined by Nikita. Unfortunately as we pressed to even the score we conceeded another two goals making it difficult for us to recover. We had some good chances to score with Skye, Katie B and Imogen. We defended well with Katie G thwarting many attempts on goal and she deserved to be our player of the week, despite Imogen being nominated by the opposing team once again.
Katie G supported by Emma, stuck to her task throughout the game and even ran from defence to an attacking position on a couple of occassions. Skye and Sharna both did well in goal, but we missed them on the field. Katie B had some nice touches and her throw-ins were good.

It's a pity Nikita wasn't with us for the whole of the match, as like the others we needed the match practice, but she played well like all the girls today.

Fingers crossed we'll get that win we deserve soon, we're in the sheild competition now, so we've still got some silver to aim for in our trophy cabinet.

Winchester Girls Vs Denmead Belles,
Conditions: Brrrrrrrrrrr
Result: 2:2
Managers Voice: I've torn up my application for the X factor.
I really enjoy games that are close and very competitive. It could have easily been won by either side who worked hard in these cold conditions.
We started with Katie B in goal, Emma and Katie G in defence, Sharna in midfield, Nikita and Imogen in attack.
The first half finished 2:1, with Katie B and Emma working very well in defence.
Katie B made a really excellent save and kept us in touch for the 2nd half. Our first goal was as a result of Sharna, Imogen and Nikita, passing and moving the ball well with Nikita scoring on her return to the team. In the second half, Sharna was now our goalie, protected by all the girls, she had little to do, only goal kicks that were well taken, both Katie G and Emma cleared the ball up field or into touch when needed.
Imogen scored our equaliser and could have even have netted the winner, if only the goalposts/crossbar hadn't got in the way!!
The highlight of the game was the movement and passing between the players, with Emma running with the ball on numerous occassions.
Although Imogen was nominated for Player of the Week by the opposing team (her 4th week in a row - Well Done), I recognise that all the players made a big contribution to the result today. The players selected Emma for our trophy this week - a good choice.
Thanks to Sharna who kept going even though she was nursing a chesty cough. I had hoped to rest her a little during the game but, unfortunately, we only had six players as Skye was ill today - get well soon and see you at the next game.

Denmead Belles Vs Southampton Saints,
17/11/07
Conditions: Overcast, Damp Result: 2:15
Managers Voice: I'll never be able to Yodell again! (but I couldn't before)
Once again we faced Southampton Saints and though we were beaten, the team never gave up.
Imogen started in goal, but it was quite clear that she didn't want to be there. So Skye offered to be in goal for the remainder of the half and was disappointed when she wasn't tested as much as Imogen had been.
In the second half, Katie B took over between the posts and made some good saves. Imogen was now in attack, scoring twice which involved all of the team.
Katie G and Sharna worked well, tackling and defending, Emma (todays Captain) passed along the line to Skye and then to Imogen for the finish.
Late on in the game Emma had a good attempt on goal that went just wide. The highlight of this game was that we played with great sprit, all the girls putting in alot of effort defending and trying to pass the ball.
Imogen was today nominated for 'Player of the Week' by the opposing Manager for her goals in the second half.
However, the award was selected by the team and Sharna took the trophy home, deservedly so, as she played well throughout the game.
Thanks to the Parents and supporters.

Result: 2 - 2
Managers Voice: Gruff
A big thank you to all the parents and others who supported the game today. A brilliant effort by all the girls (incl. Andover) to give us a very competitive and entertaining game. In the first half we lost our way a little with two goals against us, but the second half we scored and then equalised.
Our first point in the league and evidence that we are playing much better. I'll try and pick some highlights from the game, but I'd like to start with saying the contribution from everybody deserved merit.
Once again Katie G and Emma defended well and as we pressed for an equaliser, Emma's presence upfield gave us extra attack. Our attack in the first half consisted of Skye, Sharna and Katie B. Skye and Katie particurlary running through the midfield into attacking positions. Sharna worked well in a midfield role, defending very well when needed.
The team needs a little bit more confidence to run with the ball or press opposition players rather than pass, this may reward their efforts.
For the second half, Imogen was replaced in goal by Katie B. Though Katie has never played in goal before, she played well and made a good save. I hope she'll want to play in goal again. Finally Imogen's contribution, she was unlucky to concede the goals in the first half, but she more than made up by scoring two terrific goals in the 2nd and was awarded the 'Player on the Week'.
Well Done everyone who played today, I know Nikita will be pleased to see we've got a result and look forward to seeing her back in the team.

Southampton Saints Vs Denmead Belles,

Conditions: Sunny, Dry
Result: 15:1 (Skye Palmer)
Managers Voice: Lost (can you find it)
Let me start by thanking the Girls for their efforts, against a well organised team that put pressure on us for the majority of the game.
Everyone gave a good account of themselves defending very well. Though we wanted to play an attacking game, we didn't have many opportunities to do so. The result seems a 'just a tad' one sided but here are the highlights. Katie G and Emma played very well in defence, an unfamiliar role for Emma she worked hard and like Katie made some good tackles.
Initially Katie B was playing in defence alongside the other two, but as I wanted a player to remain upfield to be ready for a long clearance from Imogen. She changes to attack and helped in the restarts from the centre spot. Sharna and Skye had lots of energy throughout the game, defending well and trying to run the ball into Saints half .
Imogen was deservedly given the 'Player of the Week' award for her efforts in goal. She stopped many shots on goal and made good saves during the whole match.
Our attacks were thwarted in the first half due to their defending, but in the second we were more organised and we scored a brilliantly worked goal between Katie B and Skye to give the team a consolation for all their efforts.
Nikita missed the game due to illness, we hope she makes a speedy recovery. I look forward to the next match.

'It's a funny Old Game', a first half where we were very good defensively, a second half where although we were more attack minded, we lost our shape in defence and let in 3 goals.
I was pleased with some individual performances and the effort shown by the team. Particular highlights were Skye's work rate in defending and attack.
Sharna's late effort on goal was good and she defended well.
Katie G was good in defence working very hard to clear the ball and kick upfield as needed - a well deserved Player of the Week and a good Captain's performance.
We were pleased to welcome Katie B, who played very well in a forward position and had some nice touches. Imogen's goal and drop kicks were well directed to our players and she wasn't called upon to make a save in the first half.
Nikita and Emma also worked hard, making some good tackles when needed
On reflection there were 3 factors that played a part in our defeat: 1st there were too many subsitutions, this lost our shape and the team though not lacking in effort were confused about where they should play; 2nd subsituting Katie G, was another mistake on my part, disrupting the defence is never a good idea; the 3rd, was a our goalie who wanted to play outfield for the second.
Next time we shall be playing 2 Guinea Pigs in goal, so watch out for the saw-dust and newspaper shreddings.

Result: 2:1

A good start to the season where all the team were good in defence, tackling, movement and attack. Imogen and Katie are already the backbone of the team. Imogen was good in goal being able to smother/ stop most attempts on goal.

Andovers first goal being the result of an excellent save that rebounded to an opposition player, Imogen having little time to recover and save the resulting strike. Their 2nd goal was also very lucky as a goal mouth scramble resulted in hitting one of our own players knee into goal. Katie was alert to their attacking, hitting the ball into touch when needed and impressively turning and running into their half, passing then returning to a defensive position.
We had a three pronged attack in Skye, Nikita and Sharna (captain), these players supported each other well with some excellent passes between them. Nikita's goal was excellent, taken from an acute angle, cross-goal and into the far-corner (A well-deserved £10 from her Dad). We had several chances to run at goal but lacked support for the player and the resulting final ball was either wide or needed a pass to break down the defence. I'm sure we'll get more goals as the season progresses and the team builds an understanding as we develop our play. Many thanks to the Andover team manager to field only 5 players
'Player of the Week' - Skye, never stopped running, a brilliant effort by all the team.
Looking forward to Emma's return for the next match
Friendly Denmead Belles Vs Winchester Girls, 15/09/07 Conditions: Dry, Hot, Sunny Result 1:1 Managers Voice: Shetland (a little horse) .1st Game for the U10s before the league started in two weeks time. Introduction of Sharna and Skye to the other Girls, who along with Nikita and Emma played everywhere, whilst Imogen (captain) and Katie in defence. All the Girls had plenty of energy in exhausting conditions with good movement, tackling and passing. They all worked extremely hard and showed plenty of promise for the up and coming league games. The highlights of the game were Emma's goal and ability to pass her way out of a crowd of players, Nikita's calling and movement of the ball, Sharna and Skye non-stop running between attack and defence, Katie's disipline in defence and Imogen's keeping. Special thanks goes to Skye and her williness to go in goal when Imogen wanted to play out-field in the 2nd half.
With such a performance it was difficult to choose a 'Player of the Week', I think Sharna just edged it, but the others played a really good game as well.
